Selecting Large Window Treatments for Beauty and Privacy
Large windows are wonderful, because they allow people to be inside and yet see a panoramic view of the outdoors. They also let in a great deal of light to give rooms an open and bright look. Finding the right window treatment for out-sized windows, however, may be more difficult than for all of the rest of the windows put together. In addition, large window treatments can be very expensive because of all the materials that go into making them. However, because they are so large, they need to be chosen with care, in that they are going to be one of the focal points of your room, they're going to make your home more attractive, and they will help you maintain your privacy from exposure due to that large expanse of glass.
Formal draperies have long been the standard for large windows. People had them, because there really weren't many other choices available. Besides, they are an excellent way to cover a big expanse. Closed, they provide complete privacy, and open they allow in a great deal of natural light. However, if you wanted something in between, about the only choice available was to add sheers that would filter out some of the light by hanging closed underneath the drapes. You can still have formal draperies if you have a room that is formal enough to look nice with them, but you're also fortunate in that many other types of large window coverings are now available.
Vertical blinds have come a long way since they were first introduced onto the market. When you hear the term, you no longer need to cringe at the thought of those awful plastic vertical blinds that looked tacky and refused to open and close the way you wanted them to. One nice example of is Bali Voile Sheer Enchantment Vertical Blinds. Not only can you open the blinds completely, but you can also adjust the slats to reveal an airy, delicate sheer that diffuses the sunlight streaming in. Blinds like these almost emulate the look of draperies but without the bulk, so you can use them for a more streamlined, modern appearance.
Another popular window covering for large windows is naturally-woven panel blinds. These make a truly lovely statement in any room. They can be purchased with different levels of opacity which means you can choose from fabrics that let in more light or those that block it more fully. Panel blinds run on a track and can be purchased to fit inside your window frame or to hang outside of it. Besides being excellent large window treatments, panels also work well on sliding doors and as room dividers.
